Hungary Sets Maximum Salary Reduction for Footballers at 70%

The Hungarian Government has decreed that the salary of soccer players can be reduced by clubs by a maximum of 70%. The decree determines that at the end of the state of emergency due to the coronavirus, the salaries of soccer players must be restored to their previous level.

Regarding the competition in the Hungarian first division (NB1), the recently re-elected president of the Federation (MLSZ), Sándor Csányi, has assured in an interview that the championship can be concluded if the matches are resumed before June 13.

"We estimate that the championship can be ended if we can start playing the pending matches before June 13," Csányi told the digital sports newspaper "nemzetisport."

The president added that the reopening of the league should be announced three weeks earlier so that teams can begin training.

On March 11, it was announced that soccer matches would be played behind closed doors, without an audience, but 4 days later the MLSZ decided to cancel the championship indefinitely and asked the teams to do the same with training.

The first league (NB1) is currently led by Ferencváros with 53 points, ahead of Mol Fehárvár (50) and Mezökövesd Zsóri (45).
